Essential Hot Oils For Healthy Hair

Black hair is prone the dryness. Our hair is thick, has multiple cuticle layers and is highly susceptible to styling damage. For all these reasons, it's important to take the time and use hot oil treatments in-between styles. Here are some basic oils to get you started.
- Coconut Oil: Tons of research has been pouring into the unique properties of coconut oil as a health and beauty agent. Unlike other oils that coat the follicle, coconut oil has been shown to penetrate the shaft of the hair and keep it moisturized for a much longer period of time. This ability to penetrate helps prevent protein loss. This product is highly recommended for all black hair types but is an absolute necessary step for women who use dyes or relaxers.
- Jojoba: You've probably noticed an increase in products that claim to contain jojoba oil. There's a good reason for it's popularity. It is the closest thing to the oils your body naturally secrets, also known as sebum. It has natural cleansing properties that prevent the build up of product at the base of the follicle and these features are all beneficial for promoting growth.
- Olive Oil: Extra virgin olive oil is wonderful for treating dandruff and general conditioning of hair. This is probably the most inexpensive and readily available among the oils and it has proven to be very effective against drying.
How to do a Hot Oil Treatment:
Simply transfer the oil of your choice into an applicator bottle. Place that bottle into a bowl of hot water. Do not let the bottle get to hot, you don't want to burn your scalp. Part your hair into sections and apply the oil liberally. Put on a plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse and on to your next phase in your wash process. Once you are done with everything, run a dime sized amount of oil through your hair. And there you have it, a successful hot oil treatment to keep your hair soft and shiny.
